Five Years and No Free Records
This month is the five-year anniversary
of Bad MonkeyX, the online music magazine created and run by Toronto
song-and-dance-man jep clayton. Asked for comment on the occasion, jep
growled that he had never received many free records (or CDs or whatever)
which were a large part of why he started the site. A few at the start,
and ongoing releases by soulmates Monkey Power Trio.
His girl Marjan interjected, "Yeah,
but you never really tried to get them, either."
Jep cut her off quickly: "I did too.
I just ..." He paused and looked downcast. "I was beginning
to contact record labels when I lost the original domain name. I could
never really get up the gumption after that."
"Well," she said. "That's
... It's kind of more like a blog, now," said Marjan, changing
course.
"A blog that comes out three or four
times a year," jep laughed. "Did I tell you I've signed up
for an illustration course?"
"Where?" a friend (name changed
to protect privacy of this person) asked.
"George Brown," jep said, glad
to have successfully changed the subject.
No celebrations are scheduled.
